Halfway through the tour and just catching up on some sleep and work, we have stories to tell, but for now I thought I’d share some reviews for the album.
Mark Orton in the ODT on the 7th of September said, among other very nice things, “It’s a rare treat.”
Read the full review here:
In addition to that, we were spotted in this week’s Sunday Star Times. I’m not sure who wrote this one, because my mum just emailed me a clipping of the review. They called Apologies“(s)trangely enthralling.”
I don’t have a link to that one yet, the SST doesn’t seem to put reviews online.
We play the Watusi in Wellington this Thursday with Matt Langley and Dallas and the Mannequins, and the Bacco Room in Auckland on Friday, with Canadia and Hannah Curwood.
Both shows will be packed with good times, and cost a mere $10 on the door. See you there!
Also, I’ll be talking to Fleur on KiwiFM this afternoon at 4:30, and hopefully storming some radio stations when we’re up in the other island in the next couple of days…
The tour starts tonight, out at Port Chalmers. If you’re in the area, head to Chicks from 9 for the Sunley Band with the Alpha State and John Egenes. It’s $10 on the door, with albums available for $20, or $10 if you present your 2009 Radio One Onecard.
Also, I’m talking to Andy ‘Flyboy’ Dickson on KiwiFM tomorrow morning at 11:30am, and there’s a review of Apologiesin this morning’s ODT (I’ll post a link when that goes online).
I’ll be talking to Tim Couch on Radio One’s Friday Drive today at 4:30, about tomorrow’s tour kicker out at Chicks.
There’s also a little piece in the Thursday Star here in Dunedin about the band and the upcoming tour.
Have a listen/look!
Here’s an interesting post over at the Biff Merchants’ blog about their night playing with disco-rockers Charlie Ash.
The Biffs are (or at least Skinny is) straight-up, frank folk, and I appreciate that. This little story should make us think about the sort of basic courtesy that we could all show each other when we’re in this business.
Also, it shows another reason I don’t want to live in the valley, but that’s another story.
We’re finally ready to announce our tour. There are still a few final details to sort out but here we go!
Saturday, September 5th, Chicks Hotel, Port Chalmers

See you soon!
There’s a podcast of my interview on the VBC breakfast the other morningover here. I don’t remember what was said. I hope it’s not embarrassing.
‘Song of Envelopes’ made number one on Radio One’s Top 11 this week. I’ve never been number one at anything. Except at undergraduate history at university.
So, hey thanks everybody! And do keep voting, and keep spreading the Sunley love around this fair nation of ours, and on to the unsuspecting world!
Apologies became available on iTunes some time in the last couple of days. So go ahead and click the little iTunes link in at the bottom of the page for some Sunley lovin’. Or click here.
Of course, if you’d prefer the resplendent physicality of a compact disc with complimentary packaging, then head on over to the dunedinmusic.com store and getchoo some!
Some of us will be joining Mr. Dave Local on the Radio One show The Local this evening from 7pm. Tune in on 91FM in the Dunedin area or streaming at http://www.r1.co.nz for a few nice little live numbers and our picks from the local garden. Feel free to call in and offer your undying love.
